Odd-shape templates: cut corner, notch, rounded, hinged, V-berth
Every odd mattress is a rectangle with something taken away. Name what was taken away, and give its numbers.
Cut corner
A straight cut across a corner. Give the distance along the width and the distance along the length, and which corner (looking down at the bed, head at the top).
Rounded corner
One number per corner: the radius. Find it with a round object that fits the curve.
Hinged
A mattress that folds so a slide-out can retract or a sofa bed can close. Give the distance from the head to the fold, and which way it folds.
V-berth
Head width, foot width, length — as a check on the paper template, which is the real drawing. See boats.
Making a paper template
Kraft paper or flattened boxes, taped together to cover the whole platform. Press it into every corner, trace, cut, lay it back in to check. Write the head, the port side and the units on it. Roll it, never fold it.
Or build the shape in the sizing tool and print the sheet.
